The technical challenge of the airport signage project
For this project, the technical requirements imposed exact dimensions and correct boundaries between the colors applied on each piece.
The main requirements of the project are:
– elements made of galvanized sheet metal, with a length of 1900 mm for each individual piece;
– alternation of colored zones carried out at constant intervals of 200 mm along the entire length of the pieces;
– ends finished in red, applied over an exact length of 50 mm;
– clear boundary between colors, with no overlaps or visible deviations on the metal surface of the pieces;
– maintaining dimensions and proportions along the entire length of the piece, with no differences between elements.
Checks and control during the work
Throughout production, constant checks were carried out to maintain the correctness of each work stage.
Each piece was individually inspected to comply with the requirements set out in the technical project.
Repeated measurements were necessary to avoid deviations in the production process.
Coordination of the work stages ensured the maintenance of a correct production flow.
The technological process for airport signage: the masking and double-baking technique
The execution of the elements for airport signage was carried out in successive stages, following the work order established in production.
Preparing the support
We cut 0.50 mm galvanized sheet metal to the dimensions 200 x 1900 mm. Each strip of sheet metal was fitted with technical holes for attachment to the hooks of the painting line.
Applying the base color
The base layer, white color, was applied over the entire surface of each element produced.
The pieces were placed in the oven for complete polymerization of the initially applied paint layer.
Manual masking – covering the areas that remain white
After cooling, the necessary areas were manually masked, according to the dimensions and segmentations set out in the project.
The masking process was carried out carefully to ensure the correct boundary between the two applied colors.
Achieving the contrast
Red color was applied to the areas left uncovered after completing the manual masking stage.
The pieces were placed back in the oven for the final fixing of the applied paint layer.

1. Can H METAL paint any RAL code in multiple colors on the same piece?
Yes. Although the process is laborious and involves additional labor for masking and multiple passes through the oven, we can create complex color combinations according to project specifications.
2. What was the execution time for these customized products?
In the case of this project of 250 pieces, the deadline was approximately 15 working days. This deadline covered the entire flow: cutting, drilling, and the special double-painting process.
3. What guarantee does electrostatic powder coating offer for outdoor use?
Oven polymerization creates superior molecular adhesion compared to classic painting. This is essential for elements exposed to wind, UV radiation, and chemical agents (such as de-icing agents used at airports).
