The Braila Bridge is the third largest suspension bridge in Europe. On the first two places are the Great Belt Bridge (Denmark) and the H\u00f6ga Kusten Bridge (Sweden). The construction of this bridge is one of the most complex infrastructure works ever carried out in Romania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The inauguration of the suspension bridge in Braila will exponentially develop the economy of Tulcea and Braila counties. It also propels Romania into the echelon of states with top road infrastructure<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A suspension bridge<\/a> is a type of bridge in which the deck, consisting of a steel arch, is supported by steel suspended cables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

STEEL USED FOR EUROPE\u2019S THIRD \u2013 LARGEST SUSPENSION BRIDGE<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The cables used to suspend the Bridge over the Danube in Braila have a weight of over 6,700 tons. They are produced by a Japanese company and have a 120-year warranty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each cable is 60 centimeters in diameter and is anchored in anchor blocks on each bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suspension cables must be anchored at each end of the bridge. Any load applied to the bridge turns into voltage in these main cables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 25,000 tons of concrete steel and over 200,000 cubic meters of concrete were used for the construction of the Danube Bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suspension bridge over the Danube has a length of 1,974 meters<\/strong>. The central span has 1,120 meters, to which are added two lateral openings of 489 meters on the shore from Braila and 364 meters on the shore from Tulcea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comparatively, the famous Golden Gate<\/a> Bridge in San Francisco is 1,970 meters long and has a central span of 1,280 meters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

„This construction is one of the most ambitious initiatives to modernize the transport infrastructure in Romania, carried out with European funds, with expertise and state-of-the-art technology,” President Klaus Iohanis said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bridge is exclusively for roads, pedestrians and cyclists not having access to the bridge on dedicated lanes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Choosing a suitable grade of steel for the construction of a bridge requires a correct evaluation of product standards and an understanding of several aspects, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– the properties of the material;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– design requirements;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
