HEM beam
HEM profile uses
Small HEM - 100 – 200 mm:
- columns for small halls;
- secondary beams in metal structures;
- frames for metal containers;
- supporting elements in industrial platforms; It is easy to integrate into modular metal assemblies.
Medium HEM - 220 – 400 mm:
- main columns in civil or industrial constructions;
- superstructures for bridges or pedestrian walkways;
- transverse beams in shopping centers and production halls;
- rigid frames in earthquake-resistant buildings.
Large HEM - 450 – 1000 mm:
- bridge piers and structures resistant to exceptional loads;
- load-bearing frames in multi-storey buildings, silos and industrial towers;
- main beams for high-capacity overhead cranes;
- infrastructure for industrial plants, thermal power plants or port structures.
In structures composed of metal frames, beams are subjected to bending stresses and not torsion.
Among the common sections for such beams are HEM profiles, shaped so as to withstand bending stresses along the hard axis of the section. Metal structures have a number of advantages such as very good behavior under seismic actions, due to the low dead weight of this type of structure and the specific ductility of steel.
Hot-rolled HEM profile - recommendations for correct use
In order to fully benefit from the structural capabilities of the hot-rolled HEM profile, it is essential to follow some technical and practical recommendations:
- correct choice of profile size;
- adequate structural calculation;
- anti-corrosion protection - if used outdoors or in humid/corrosive environments, it is necessary to apply a hot-dip galvanizing treatment, anti-corrosion primer or polyurethane paint.
